Season’s Greetings from Jetstart

As 2014 comes to an end and we prepare for the holidays, it is also a time to reflect on the events of the past year. As a team we have shared laughs and delicious meals, survived grueling practices, clocked in countless km both paddling and running and have made many new friends. Our final regatta in San Fran reminded us why we love to paddle and put so much time and effort into the sport year after year. We want to thank CSDC and the Bay Area Dragons (BAD) Club for their continued support and friendship and all teams in the paddling community for challenging us all season. Jetstart wishes everyone a wonderful holiday season and all the best for the New Year.

Jetstart Dominates in San Francisco

Jetstart returned to the San Francisco International Dragon Boat Festival held at Treasure Island. The team was greeted so warmly by old friends, festival organizers and spectators. It was an incredible weekend packed with racing, good times and great energy!

In the gender divisions, Jetstart joined forces with the Bay Area New Gen (BANG) team to form “JetBang” and went on to capture gold in both the Women’s and Men’s 500m Championship races. Merging with friends from the Bay Area Dragons and Dragon Hearts Ultimate, Jetstart entered a Masters team that also went on to capture gold in the Masters 500m Championship.

The Mixed 500m category had some great rivalries throughout the weekend and Jetstart was able to put it all together to capture gold in the Hong Kong Electric and Trade Office Visiting Team Mixed race and the main event - gold in the A Division 500m Championship Final.

It truly was a GOLDEN weekend for Jetstart and a weekend to remember. Thank you to the Bay Area Dragons who were such accommodating hosts and treated Jetstart like family. A big shout out to all of the festival organizers and volunteers for running another great event.

What a way to end the 2014 dragon boat season in Canada! Jetstart wins 3rd place at the most anticipated dragon boat showdown of the year. We clocked a sub-2 minute race time (1:59.97) in the Premier Mixed A Division Grand Final - arguably one of our team's best performances ever!

In addition to that, guess who wears the skirts AND the gold? Entre-Amies! Winning gold with an amazing 2:09.61 in the Premier Women A Division. What's the secret? When you have a solid foundation in training, the trust of your coach and your teammates, the pleasure of paddling together and a strong grit to win, nothing is impossible! Congratulations, Jetstart and Entre-Amies. We also want to congratulate all the teams who showed us their talents, their energy, and their competitiveness but most of all, their friendship. You all pushed us to the max. Thank you!
