Jetstart competed at the 2015 Canadian Dragon Boat Championships at the Welland International Flatwater Centre. All of the top teams in every division from across the country were in attendance resulting in some of the fastest times we have seen this season and a level of competition that did not disappoint.

Despite the miserable weather and challenging conditions, the team posted strong results winning Bronze in the 200m A Final, Gold in the 500m B final and 8th in the 2000m race. Jetstart had its best finish ever at Nationals, placing 4th overall in the final standings after the points calculations. Congratulations to everyone for a strong team effort and amazing racing all weekend. We also want to congratulate the Canadian Senior Dragonboat Club (CSDC) and all other teams for and pushing us to fight for every race.

A Jetstart First

The Parry Sound Dragon Boat Festival has always been one of Jetstart's favourite regattas. It's a nice weekend getaway for the team and time well spent with family and friends. And who can forget the fish fry - it's one of the main attractions of this event! Well this year's Parry Sound will forever be remembered as an eventful day of "first" for Jetstart.

The day started with the sun beaming and the hope of a bright day ahead. Everyone was optimistic there wouldn't be a repeat of last year's cold snap. As Jetstart paddled its first 500m race to an easy win, it seemed likely that the calm weather would prevail. After breakfast, the team had plenty of time to converse, play cards, crosswords, and chess. Soon Jetstart was off to the next heat. The waves slightly picked up but the Jetstart boat glided through, and the team once again came through victorious. After a hearty lunch and a few hours of downtime, Jetstart was pumped for the 500m finals. The team had a strong start and a wide lead, until about halfway down the course, waves began billowing (and there was no stopping the water coming in), and the boat began to sink. This has never happened before!. Team members calmly pulled the boat toward the shore, as the local team Eat Trout, a team of youngsters, crossed the finish line to the cheers of the local crowd. But the ordeal of the sinking dragonboat didn't dampen Jetstart's spirits. Jetstart came back to easily win the 2k race! The fish fry was a delight in the evening. And the OC race on Sunday, despite the rain, continued on without incident, and concluded the fun weekend!

It was a cold start to the day for the Milton Dragon Boat Festival, but Jetstart warmed things up with the fastest mixed time of qualifying with a 2:02.50, and we were close behind a couple of university teams! Second round of races were 200 meter races and pulled the second fastest time with a 0:41.00, setting us up for the A final with the Iron Dragons, New College Dragons, Rye-D-Boat, the Water Vipers and the Chinook Mojos. Each race we came more together as a team and in the final we pulled a 1:57.37 to take the victory!! In the 2km race, we started 14th out of 16 crews and passed many boats leading to a finishing time of 09:07.43 and the victory! Overall it was an amazing day of racing and great way to kick off the 2015 season.
